Ideas to cover windows in very cold climates

In very cold climates, the windows are one of the main culprits of heat loss. Even good insulating windows, while helping to heat the home with sunlight during the day, will lose considerable amounts of heat overnight if not covered properly. A variety of window treatments that save energy will help alleviate this problem.

Plastic

The very act of covering windows with plastic will help you keep a lot of heat inside the house. This method will make a difference with the old windows of a single glass rather than new windows if they are already quite efficient. You can use any plastic and simply stick to the window with packing tape, or you can get a better view from outside if you use the specially designed plastic for this purpose. You can paste this plastic window frame with tape double face, and then use the hair dryer to stretch and adjust the plastic, and thus make it almost invisible.

Rigid foam

An effective method for extremely cold areas, or windows with many fissures, is cut pieces of rigid foam 2 inches (5.08 centimeters) that fit firmly in the window frame. The foam can be used to cover the windows at night, and then take them out and keep them close during the day.

This method of isolation of windows is somewhat intensive to do it every morning and night work, but if you live in a place with temperatures reaching 40 or 50 below zero, as frequently occurs in parts of Canada, savings energy.
