Removing the rivets on a window regulator

Disconnect the black negative battery cable when working with power windows. Windows scissors are counter weighted and use a lot of force. Do not put hands between moving parts at any time during this procedure.

Remove the covers and accessories door panel with a wrench or screwdriver. Slide the removal of the instrument panel in the corner of the door panel and lift the loose panel. Try to place the removal of the instrument panel below the panel clip to prevent damage. Pry the bottom and sides of the panel until all the clips of the panel are released from the door.

Remove the door panel. Lifting from the recess in the top of the door during the operation of the outside door handle. Disconnect the electrical connectors for power options and door speakers.

Remove plastic moisture barrier. This will be sealed inside the door panel flexible caulking. The plastic barrier can be pressed in place with the same piece of caulking later. Do not damage the wall or putty. If you are replacing a broken window, absorb all the broken glass.

Spreading the ‘windows down until you can access the rivets with a drill or rotary tool. The inside of the door will have large access holes. Remove the speaker, if you need further access.

Tap the punch in the center of the rivet. The pin is steel, and the rivet head is aluminum. Aluminum is softer than steel and easier to drill.

Regulator tightened engages the top of the door with an elastic cord. This will prevent a sudden drop when the rivets are released.

Drill the rivet head with a titanium drill large or grind with a rotary tool and grind. Do not let the drill bit when hot glass is stuck. Easy and cool the cutting bit or liquid poured into the drill site. Do not use excessive force when drilling. Be careful and wear safety glasses when working around metal shavings and sparks.

Lift out the pieces into or rivet. With the heading, now you can drill the rivet with a small metal punch and a hammer. Avoid excessive force to avoid breaking the glass.
