Removing auto glass

A broken windshield usually means it’s time to call the professionals, but you can save enough on the invoice if the auto glass is removed before it reaches the technician to install a new one. It is also a useful skill if you like classic cars like finding replacements for curved glass especially can send mobile through junkyards, where if you find you have to remove the glass of the car and take it home to your restoration project.

Instructions:

  1. Gently lift any adjustments glass car with a flathead screwdriver. If you are reusing the trim, it is best to start lifting with the screwdriver and then pull it the rest of the way, slowly, by hand. Doing it on the outside and inside of the glass being removed.
  2. Peel any meeting that may be below the molding. Again, if in good condition, start lifting with the screwdriver and pull it by hand. This way you can reuse well.
  3. Insert the knife between the cold glass of the car and the car chassis from the top of the glass in the center. Taking care to keep the knife blade perpendicular to the glass (an exact angle of 90 degrees), remove the knife to cut through auto glass under seal. Repeat all glass.
  4. Remove the glass from inside the car. Auto glass rests on tabs molded into the frame and push him out of the tabs, place one of their 2x4s between auto glasses and frame to support the frame.
  5. Remove the glass Car Auto carefully lifting out.

Tips & Warnings:

  • Having someone to lift larger pieces, such as front and rear windscreen, as the size and weight of the glass is more easily handled by two people.
  • If any part of broken auto glass, make sure that section completely eliminates breakage of the piece. This will prevent unnecessary injuries when you go to remove the glass of the car.
